Ultra-urban cityscape and summer-infused styling melted with clouds of white and baby blue hues to adorn their Melbourne wedding celebration of Joel & Claire. Custom calligraphy was weaved throughout their day and love story including custom embroidery and calligraphy with the bride’s favourite lillies alongside the memories and milestones of this couple.
Every detail was meticulously crafted  as an exploration of love and art as the sun went down to compliment the bright lights and mood of Luminare.

To escalate the full party feels, the injection of vibrant sunset skies, hand painted fans and the closeness of their tight knit friends and family sealed the deal and had every guest dancing all night on the dancefloor.

The night before

The night prior to our wedding day was spent with my bridesmaids relaxing and preparing for the next day. It was to be a relaxed affair – and was so special to spend this time with my girls.

Each of my bridesmaids were giving individual gifts – a Tocca perfume, Longchamp bag and a 18K gold bracelet. Each gift was tailored to each bridesmaid and I wanted this to be a gift  they would keep forever signifiying our long friendship. In true calligraphy fashion, I gifted everyone with handwritten cards (including all the groomsmen) and engraved lipsticks with their names – along with earrings and pieces for them to wear on the wedding day. It was the perfect night prior to my wedding and I couldn’t have pictured it to go better.

We went out for an intimate wine bar nearby that served dinner which we spent hours laughing, eating and getting excited about the next day. I couldn’t have asked for a better night with my girls prior to my wedding day. Also a big tip for anyone getting married who gets nerves about sleep – get a massage the day prior as it was a huge factor in the best sleep I had – completely knocking me out until the morning of.

The morning of

The morning of is always the calm before the storm. There’s a contagious air of excitement that surrounds everyone, especially as the looks come together and you pinch yourself and think – “Im finally getting married today.”

There were many subtle wedding stationery details that got us both excited about seeing each other at our First Look. Handwritten cards were exchanged between my husband & I which Ill treasure for the rest of my life. In a world where we constantly just call or text – I love seeing love immortalised and expressed in the simplest form on paper. An ode to my husband’s surname was etched and adorned on my perfume along with our engagement date engraved on our ring box.

Our wedding invite was also a design I had worked on for the last year tweaking creativity to reach new heights. Light and airy pastel florals adorned the border of our invitation with our calligraphy name designs foiled in amethyst. In designing the invitations the idea was to lean into colour with a minimal design whilst focusing on thick cardstock and the printing method of foiling and debossing. A double sided invitation was born with full lettering on the other side. Our engagement image was hand drawn and digitised by PlayPause paired by our calligraphy. The combination of these two elements along with special print methods created an artful, modern and timeless design.

Each invitation was sealed with a lilac wax seal with handwritten envelopes addressed in Copperplate Calligraphy & blocked lettering in an azure shimmering ink.

Our love story on my veil

As an artist with a profound love in storytelling and preserving family history – I wanted to create a bespoke design on my veil of all the significant milestones that led us to this day. This private yet public element was a subtle element that holds so much weight to our lives, love and history.

I was inspired by Virgil Abloh’s “Til Death Do us Part” for Hailey Bieber’s veil and other various veils, however they were generally initials, names or dates. I wanted to immortalise our love story on my bridal veil with all the events that lead us to the wedding day.

I worked with a Vietnamese designed chi Oanh who custom designed my dress as well as created my custom veil. My calligraphy was handwritten in pencil, digitisted and then embroided in the middle of the veil with couture calla lillies and leaves outlining the edges of the veil. Chi Oanh completely understood my artistic vision and flair in pairing the the most beautiful details with my calligraphy veil that captured our love story so perfectly on our wedding day.

Ceremony

Our ceremony was a stunning affair on the beautiful rooftop deck at Luminare that has uninterrupted views of x being the perfect place for us to celebrate our love for each other. Walking down the aisle to the beautiful white clouds of Ecuadorian roses and baby blue hydrangeas was like stepping into a dream. We were blessed with beautiful weather and it was definitely one of our favourite moments of the day, sharing our vows in front of our closest family and friends.

Reception

Our main vibe for our reception party was for it to be fun and for people to have the BEST time! Our stationery was tailored to reflected that as well.

We wanted colour to showcase our personalities – hand painted fans in orange and blue with our wedding dates and  “Just Married” slogans with sunglasses to get the party going, our age related photos on each table number (which most guests just loved laughing at), a crossword with various facts on us (kudos to my bridesmaid for this!) & a riddle in our drinks menu which opened up access to our secret drink menu. We loved planning each part of this and it was so fun to see everyone involved with all the easter eggs and notice these tiny details.

We truly had the best night of our lives – celebrating with all our close friends and family dancing on into the night.  The year long stress of wedding planning was all worth it for one of the best days of our lives.

I hope this gave you some inspiration for your wedding planning and some insight to all the stationery elements a calligrapher would choose for their wedding day. These elements really make each wedding more personable to the couple, helping tell your family history and stories to share for years to come.
